August 16th, 1777 the Battle of Bennington began in Walloomsac, NY; though it is named after Bennington, Vermont which was about 10 miles away.
The battle consisted of a rebel force of 2,000 men led by General John and reinforced by Colonel Seth Warner. Due to a lack of planning and men by Great Britian's Friedrich Baum, the rebel forces were victorious; not only a key victory, but the battle helped to gain colonial support for independence.
